Seeking
a UU Theology – Six Sessions
CLASS 1 -
What is Theology and why do we care?
Can we discover a definition of theology that we as UUs
can feel comfortable with?
What is YOUR definition of theology?
Let’s begin the creation of
Loose Leaf Bibles
by creating a list of Definitions and Postulates and the Warrants that we find authoritative
that we can use as guides in our theological quest.
CLASS 2 -
Where
do Laws, Rules, Ethics and Morality come from?
Let’s write our own Tem Commandments
and Bill of Rights using some of the resources we have gathered for our Loose-leaf
bible.
These lists and all of the others that we discover in this
class might need to be separated into two subsections: our personal-idiosyncratic
perspective and a community-UU perspective – is this true?
Do they differ and if so how?
CLASS 3 -
What does it mean to “Come of Age”?
What are the ages/stages of our lives?
What does it mean to be a grown-up?
What should a Coming of Age Ceremony/Celebration entail?
Let’s write a Coming of Age
Ceremony using some of the resources we have gathered for our Loose-leaf bible.
CLASS 4 - What is Love and Commitment and why/what is Marriage/Holy
Union
?
What is different about marriage
and friendship?
What is different about marriage
and living together?
Let’s create a Wedding/Holy
Union Ceremony using some of the resources we have gathered for our Loose-leaf bible.
CLASS 5 -
How can we live a life of Meaning?
What
happens when someone dies?
How would you like to be remembered?
Let’s create a Memorial Service or an obituary using some of the resources we have
gathered for our Loose-leaf bible.
CLASS 6 -
How can we create a meaningful UU theology?
What is missing from our loose-leaf bibles?
Is there an overarching concept or paradigm that could encompass the theological
bits and pieces that we have developed?
Can we create a tentative Theology using the resources that we have gathered in
this course?
Can we
as a class agree on a UU Theology?
